The Journey Begins

Hello Superpowered Society!

In today’s culture, there are influencers coming from a variety of angles.  Their outlets are not limited to TV, Radio, Movies, Social Media…. Podcasts(maybe?).  We absorb information constantly and this information, whether researched and accurate, opinionated, recognizably fictional or just “fake news”, is influencing the way we think, feel, and interact with people daily.

What if I told you that superheroes have a greater impact on society than what we realize? That these fictional characters are influencing and reflecting today’s modern American culture? That history can be explain through the lens of comic book characters.

This blog/podcast is a continuation of the conversation I started in college.  Through various courses I focused on the impact comic books, cartoons and their characters have on modern day culture. In my research, I learned that we can see a reinforcement of the status quo as well as reasons why a country came together during a world war.

This isn’t a new concept or a new conversation within the superhero society or the world we live in generally, but I question if we are glamorizing the right superheroes and if those superheroes continue to reinforce the status quo, slowing down the rate of change towards a more equitable society.

There is no right or wrong answer, but perspective.  I hope to share perspective in a medium that allows for conversation to happen so we begin to find ways to be entertained while working towards a more just and equitable society.
